A leading figure in contemporary electronic music, Marie Davidson is renowned for her hypnotic and high-impact live performances, where club-driven rhythms, sharp lyricism, and magnetic stage presence collide.
A longtime ally of Festival Phénomena, Davidson will transform the closing night of the festival’s 15th edition into a true celebration by presenting the final performance of the tour for her latest album, City of Clowns. A wild, communal, and exhilarating event to bring the festival to a powerful close.
Born in Montreal, the producer, vocalist, DJ, composer, and poet has emerged over the past decade as one of the most distinctive voices in international electronic music. Her work combines driving beats, immersive synthesizer textures, and incisive writing that moves between introspection, social satire, and keen observations of contemporary life.
Whether as a solo artist or as one half of the duo Essaie Pas, Davidson has built an acclaimed body of work released on influential labels including Deewee, Ninja Tune, Cititrax (Minimal Wave), and DFA Records. Her music frequently explores themes of club culture, compulsive work, femininity, digital alienation, and the contradictions of modern society.
Released in 2025, City of Clowns continues this critical exploration by taking aim at surveillance capitalism and the growing influence of technology giants. The album was shortlisted for the 2025 Polaris Music Prize. Davidson’s work has been praised by major international publications including The Guardian, Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, Libération, Le Devoir, La Presse, Rolling Stone Québec, The Fader, NME, and The Quietus.
