USHA GUPTA DANCE ENTOURAGE
Usha Gupta is a Canadian dance icon and is thrilled to present and tour her newest Kathak creation. This is a successful hybrid of both music and dance that create a beautiful blend that is fresh and exciting. This classical form of dance from northern India is revitalized by her ensemble, her most intimate collaborators. A spectacular dance performance, celebrating the power and beauty of diversity. KHOJ (The Search), after being premiered in Canada, toured India in starting in the summer of 2019 where this extraordinary group of dancers and musicians inspired and brought a contemporary approach to array of audiences in both Canada and India. “At the heart of my inspiration for this piece is the idea that if you search for the beauty within an unshaped space, the poetry inherent in the physical body will be revealed, and the spirit of dance will be expressed, similar to how a sculptor searches for the statue hidden within the uncut rock.”
