USTAD IRSHAD KHAN

Ustad Irshad Khan was born in Kolkata, India. As a child prodigy he rendered his first stage performance at the age of 8 . Ustad Irshad Khan is considered as the leading Surbahar player and among the finest Sitar players of  today. Son and disciple of Legendary Ustad Imrat Khan, Irshad has emerged as the heir and the torch-bearer of the the leading iconic Sitar Gharana  “the Imdad Khani Etawah Gharana“, taking his illustrious Gharana forward. He has developed and advanced the technique of Surbahar and Sitar, by introducing many musical subjects along with left hand meends and right hand tantra techniques. His style is a combination of the authentic Asal Gayaki Ang  and Tantra Ang Baaj, gaining comprehensive mastery over every major aspect of Hindustani classical music .He has been to over 40 countries and performed in major venues and festivals all over the globe. He is the founder president of Universal Academy for musicians, which has its branches in Toronto, Rochester NY and Kolkata . At present, his base is Toronto and Kolkata .

ZAHEER-ABBAS JANMOHAMED

Zaheer-Abbas Janmohamed was born in Scarborough, ON and brought up in Calgary, AB, where he began learning tabla at a young age. A recipient of an Arts Fellowship award from the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, Zaheer-Abbas spent time in India pursuing his study of classical tabla, and he is a student of Ustad Allarakha's senior disciple, Shri Prafulla Athalye.  Continuously learning and growing as both a student and performer of tabla, Zaheer-Abbas strives to preserve the integrity of the classical repertoire he has studied while bringing the sound of tabla to new contexts and audiences in the Canadian music scene.
