*** Activity exclusively reserved for Université Laval students***

The Bureau de la vie étudiante invites you to discover the Forêt Montmorency, Université Laval teaching and research forest. The forest is located 75 km north of Quebec City and covers more than 400 km2. It is bordered by the Laurentides Wildlife Reserve, the Seigneurie de Beaupré, and Jacques-Cartier National Park. This forest is located in the bioclimatic subdomain of the fir-paper birch forest, which is characterized by a cold and humid climate. Snow is normally abundant and present from October to April. Université Laval has been managing this territory since 1963. In addition to teaching and research activities, it offers outdoor activities.

The proposed activity starts with a presentation (French only) of the Forêt Montmorency, its history, geography, wildlife, climate, and its role in research for Université Laval.

Afterwards, we will go outside for a guided scientific snowshoe hike (French only) where we will be able to observe the local wildlife, their tracks, and the vegetation that lives under the thick snow cover (approximate duration of 2 hours). We will end the day with lunch and a wood fire outside.

Forêt Montmorency: À propos | Faculté de foresterie, de géographie et de géomatique

When: Saturday March 14 2026. We will leave Université Laval at 8:30 a.m. (between Ernest-Lemieux and Alphonse-Desjardins buildings). Departure from the site at 3 p.m. and we will be back on campus around 4 p.m.

Cost: $15, including transportation, equipment, service of guides and park entry.

Meal: There is no food service on site. You must bring your own lunch.

Attire: Most of the day is spent outside, so you should dress accordingly. As winter can be pretty cold, warm clothing (mittens, warm hat and scarf, wool socks, coat, winter boots) are required. If possible, dress with breathable clothing made for winter sport.

Registration: Register online (credit card only) before Monday March 9 at 11:45 p.m. Limited quantity: first come, first served!

Non-refundable tickets: If you cannot come, you may transfer your ticket to someone else.

Weather: Mare-du-Sault, QC - Prévision horaire - MétéoMédia

Bad weather: In the event that the site is closed due to very bad weather conditions, you will be notified of the cancellation or postponement of the activity by email and will be reimbursed if applicable.
