Getting on Your Feet with Jock Soto 

To add to your experience of the Red Sky Performance webcast, enter the movement with Jock Soto for a virtual dance workshop.  

This workshop for all will be taught by former New York City Ballet principal dancer who is now an associate artist with Red Sky Performance, Jock Soto (Navajo). Jock will teach contemporary dance and ballet techniques incorporating fitness exercises while respecting the limitations of your space at home. 

This workshop is an initiative of Danse Danse (Montreal) offered in collaboration with Red Sky Performance (Toronto), DanceHouse (Vancouver), National Arts Centre (Ottawa), Harbourfront Centre (Toronto) and Springboard Performance (Calgary).

Cet atelier sera donné par Jock Soto (Navajo), ancien danseur principal du New York City Ballet et maintenant artiste associé de la compagnie Red Sky Performance.

Jock Soto Distinguished dancer Jock Soto (Navajo) was 16 when George Balanchine selected him to join the New York Ballet company, where he became an unexpected force and choreographic muse. Jock’s extensive repertory includes featured roles in over 40 ballets, of which an unprecedented 35 were created for him. His principal roles included works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Peter Martins, Christopher Wheeldon, and Lynne Taylor-Corbett. After an acclaimed 24-year performing career at one of the most prestigious ballet companies in the world, he retired from dancing in 2005. He was a permanent member of the faculty and instructor at the School of American Ballet from 1996 to 2015. He was the subject of a documentary film “Water Flowing Together” and his memoir Every Step You Take was published in October 2011 by HarperCollins. Jock has been an Associate with Red Sky Performance since 2010.
