Among the great foundational works of the Western repertoire, St. John Passion by J. S. Bach sets to music the story of Christ’s Passion, from his arrest to his crucifixion.
“It is through human emotions—fear, pain, compassion—that Bach the musician, Bach the preacher, leads his listeners to contemplate the divine drama.”
— Gilles Cantagrel, The Mill and the River, 1998
This major concert of sacred music is presented by L’Harmonie des saisons, a vocal ensemble and period-instrument orchestra, on tour.
The version performed will be the rarely heard 1725 version.
