Richard Morse

Richard Auguste Morse was born in Puerto Rico in 1957 and grew up in Connecticut, USA. He graduated from Princeton University in 1979 with a degree in anthropology. In 1985, he moved to Haiti to explore Haitian and Caribbean music. In 1987, he began managing the Hotel Oloffson in Port-au-Prince. In 1990, he founded the Haitian mizik rasin band RAM, whose music combines traditional Haitian sounds with rock music. Morse and RAM became famous for their political songs, especially their criticism of Haiti’s military government in the 1990s. He is also a Vodou priest, known as a houngan, and his music is strongly influenced by Vodou traditions. Morse left Haiti in 2022 because of increasing violence, and the Hotel Oloffson was destroyed by fire in 2025.

Richard Morse, leader of the RAM band and an internationally recognized figure in Haitian music, is the guest of the Creole Month and his friends Daniel Morel and Laurence Durand. A visionary artist, iconic voice of mizik rasin (roots music), and cultural ambassador, he will offer a unique and intimate concert filled with emotion and authenticity.
