The Foundation is a genre-defying collective rooted in rhythm, resilience, and rich culturalexpression. Helmed by Senegalese-CapeVerdean multihyphenate artist Fredy V and longtimecollaborator Mel Pacifico, the group brings together a rotating lineup of top-tiermusicians, creating a sound rooted in live instrumentation, groove-driven rhythms, and rich storytelling. The group seamlessly blends funk, R&B, Afrobeats, and hip hop into a sound that’s both globally resonant and unmistakably their own.
After making waves in Washington D.C. and now Montreal-based, Fredy V has built a reputation for his dynamic stage presence, vocal versatility, and collaborative spirit. His musical journey includes work with artists such as Aiza, Anomalie, Malika Tirolien, Snarky Puppy, Kool & The Gang, Roy Ayers and UK neo-soul pioneer Omar. A life-threatening health scare catalyzed Fredy V’s evolution from solo artist and bandleader to visionary leader of a collaborative music collective- uniting Mel Pacifico with a powerhouse team of musicians to form The Foundation.
Since their 2020 debut EP ONE STEP, Fredy V & The Foundation have evolved from backing band to production unit, crafting a vibrant catalogue that reflects the group’s diverse backgrounds and shared vision. Their collective experience spans national TV performances, collaborations with Canadian talents like Lou Phelps, Shay Lia, Zach Zoya, and Kallitechnis, and a growing presence in Canada’s emerging R&B and Afrobeats landscape.
