Immerse yourself in the world of chivalry: Who exactly were the knights?

This lecture explores the figure of the knight between the 14th and 16th centuries. Drawing on several works and objects on display in the Knights exhibition, it will provide a better understanding of who these men were: their social backgrounds, their roles, and their activities.

Tournaments, court life, preparing for battle... the life of a knight was not exactly easy-going! This lively introduction will lay the historical foundations for the exhibition.

Philippe Genequand

Philippe Genequand (PhD, University of Geneva) is a tenured professor in the Department of History at the Université de Montréal, director of the Student Interdisciplinary Training and Success Support Service (SAFIRE), and a member of the Centre for Medieval Studies (CEM).

He is a member of the scientific committee for the Knights exhibition.
