Yves Léveillé

Yves Léveillé, pianist and composer Over the past twenty years, composer/pianist Yves Léveillé has established himself as a key figure on the Quebec jazz scene. Drawing on both contemporary and traditional jazz, classical and world music, the composer's aesthetics are distinguished by a refined and melodic harmonic sound that appeals to a wide audience. Hailed for his talent in knowing how to express the musical phrase in such a way as to create a space where time is suspended, Léveillé ingeniously articulates tradition and experimentation, forging a poetic and intimately human work. The musician has recorded eight albums available on the Effendi and Atma -Classique labels, all of which have aroused the enthusiasm of the public and journalists alike. The album Phare, recorded with his brand new quintet, was released in May 2019. He has received several grants (CALQ/ participation of the Banff Center and the State of New York) for creative residencies; twice in New York including the Quebec Studio and once at the Banff Center (2004, 2007, 2012). Léveillé has performed in America, Europe and China. On many occasions he has been nominated in Quebec for two consecutive years for Concert of the Year and Best Jazz Album at the Prix Opus. In September 2018 he received the André Gagnon prize (for instrumental music) from the SPACQ foundation.
