Human Powered

The Finlayson Arm 28k/50k/100k is a trail running event based outside Victoria BC. The race traverses 100km of rugged, mountainous terrain. The race spans a 3-day period in September of each year. It takes a vast, dedicated community of organizers and volunteers to produce such an event. Follow along as Race Director Myke Labelle and his event crew welcome runners from all over the world to their hometown trail network. This project will focus on the characters who bring this event to life, the work involved, and the motives behind producing such a race - as well as showcasing the natural beauty of the area. Human Powered aims to document the world of Ultramarathon Running through the eyes of those who dream up such events.

Frosty

“Frosty” features world-renowned trail runner and Merrell Ambassador Anna Frost as she navigates through a new chapter in her life: pregnancy and motherhood. On the surface, Anna Frost looks like a competition-driven, elite ultra-runner having won some of the hardest races in her sport. One would probably think the desire to win is what drives Anna to trail run. To her, trail running is a gateway to connection. Connection to nature. Connection to community. And ultimately, connection to the self. The film will get viewers stoked to learn more about the fabled “Frosty”, yet she is about go through the hardest challenge of her life: motherhood.

LEADMAN | The Dave Mackey Story

On May 23, 2015, the unimaginable happened to Altra Running and CamelBak athlete Dave Mackey on a routine training run. At the summit of Bear Peak, a giant boulder became dislodged sending Mackey tumbling down the mountain before it also landed on him crushing his left leg. After a series of unsuccessful surgeries over the next year plus to get back to normal, he and his family made the difficult decision to amputate. This is his story about perseverance and coming back from the injury to attempting to complete the Leadville Race Series to become the first ever leg amputee to call himself a "Leadman".
