REAC project is a participatory research project on intersectoral collaborations (involving actors from health, social, community and municipal sectors) to which migrant user representatives, stakeholders and managers from the public and community sectors contributed directly during COVID-19 pandemic, in three cities - Montreal (QC), Sherbrooke (QC) and Toronto (ON). These collaborations were implemented to urgently address the needs of refugees, asylum seekers and non-status migrants, to ensure their equitable access to services during the pandemic. We explored the experience of these intersectoral collaborations through interviews with 58 public/community service providers, and focus groups with 55 refugees, asylum seekers and non-status migrants. These findings highlight promising practices in cross-sector collaboration and civic engagement, but also challenges in terms of the accessibility and sustainability of these initiatives for these populations. Our workshop will enable us to integrate the knowledge gained from our research into practices and policies in three Canadian contexts, involving collaborations between players from several disciplines, institutions and sectors.

We wish to share and exchange these findings with a wider audience, with the idea of supporting: 1) political advocacy in favor of responsive and adapted service provision for refugees, asylum seekers and status migrants in the context of crisis and beyond, and 2) the development of promising organizational and professional practices for NPOs and public agencies working with these populations. To achieve these two objectives, our workshop will result in the formulation of policy and practice recommendations that will be discussed by all our participants. In addition, for the first component, following the workshop, we will prepare policy briefs based on our research findings and the recommendations from our workshop, to reach decision-makers at various levels who will not be present. Finally, for the second component, at the end of this workshop, we will launch a practice-sharing platform (online forum), which will be particularly useful for those working with these populations.

Finally, our workshop, and the project more broadly, by involving migrant user representatives directly in the presentation and discussion of results and recommendations, plays a direct part in promoting the consideration of principles of equity, diversity and inclusion so that the benefits of the research are maximized - particularly for these refugee, asylum-seekers and non-status migrant users.
