INFORMED PUBLIC, NUDITY
Suspended Culture is a collective of young emerging artists from Chicago. They are firmly rooted in the context of their country and the social upheaval they have faced in recent years. Alternating between political speech, body transformation and the use of media circulating on the Internet, these artistic voices are emblematic of a generation that refuses to reproduce and accept the status quo. The collective is interested in love as a technique through which it is possible to create and to think. It focuses on how we can keep that loving space alive; particularly within white capitalist institutions where people of color are often forced to function underwhelmingly.
LOVESPACE lovespace LoveSpace is an homage to the spaces of love and safety that Black people in the United States have created and maintained: the church, the barber shop, the kitchen and the playground. These relational spaces blend into the ordinary, but fundamentally operate as places of transformation. Often these spaces are ephemeral institutions, necessarily mutable, yet always rooted in love.
They invite all who enter their performative space to reflect on the sacred places of love and the techniques used to construct them. The collective uses Bell Hooks' seminal work, All About Love, as a source that evokes the radical possibilities of black sacred places.
