“The vision of a marriage between jazz and African music spectacularly achieved (…) A dense, skillful and exciting blend of jazz fusion and Mandinka rhythmic motifs, among other musical traditions” (Le Devoir, 2021).

Here and elsewhere, the critics have given Donald Dogbo’s first album, Coubli (Disques Nuit d’Afrique / Believe Digital) rave reviews. A drummer from a long line of percussionists, Donald Dogbo, who studied at Abidjan’s Institut national supérieur des arts et de l’action Culturelle, has a blast playing with rhythms, combining African beats such as Akpongbô, Gbégbé, Bikutsi or Mbalax, using jazz as the glue to hold it all together.
