TARAF SYRIANA - From the Balkans to Syria
Concert and album launch

Sitting at the crossroads of cultures and peoples, Syria is a centuries-old cradle of civilizations. Arabs, Kurds, Armenians, Syrians, Turks, Iraqis and Roma have all left their mark on the history of this country with its thousand-year heritage.

Taraf Syriana is a diverse ensemble of brilliant musicians with a wide range of ethnic and musical backgrounds. Accordionist Sergiu Popa (a specialist in Balkan music), violist Omar Abou Afach, cellist Noémy Braun and ganoun player Naeem Shanwar will take you on a fascinating exploration of a glorious musical legacy, shaped by a broad mix of cultures and civilizations.

This launch party will celebrate the group’s latest release, a folk album featuring music from the Balkans to Syria. These four talented virtuosos will be joined by a number of guest musicians and vocalists, as they transport you to the lands of the Roma and deep into the Middle East. Together with Romanian guitarist and singer Dan Armeanca, Syrian oud player and singer Ayham Abou Ammar, and darbouka player Mohamad Raky, Taraf Syriana will unveil a treasure trove of traditional music from the Levant, paying tribute to its rich history and multiple cultural identities.

Taraf Syriana and their guests will weave beautiful stories of colourful melodies, infused with the rhythms and sounds of the Middle East, Eastern Europe and the Balkans, for an exhilarating show that will have you leaping from your seat!
