KUPKUA
"Every migration involves a sense of loss, shaping our perception of the world and our interactions with others."
After its premiere in June 2022, our artistic creation, KUPKUA, returns to the stage with a renewed perspective. Featuring live music performed by Raiz Viva, a new cast, and reimagined choreography, we aim to breathe new life into this performance that depicts an essential process experienced by anyone undergoing migration.
The drum, a silent traveler from afar, carries with it the echoes of an ancient loss. Each beat resonates like a whisper of lost lands, a breath that transforms pain into rhythm. Upon arriving in new territories, its sound bears the weight of nostalgia, but also the promise of rebirth. Broken connections find new paths in the vibrations that unite bodies and souls, as if every drumbeat were a bridge between worlds—an invisible fabric where loss becomes creation, and grief becomes a dance.

Organisme artistique Tondoa
Since 2016, five enthusiasts of Colombian traditions created Tondoa, an innovative and daring dance project. This experimental laboratory breaks away from folkloric conventions, rethinking the management and creation of traditional dances.
Over the years, Tondoa has established principles that honor traditions while making them evolve. The dancers share not only their technical skills but also their personal experiences, celebrating the diversity of their identities.
Today, Tondoa is a research and creation dance company, bridging Colombian roots with the contemporary world. We form a learning community where everyone can express themselves freely and grow together.
In 2021, Tondoa restructured into two divisions: Relève and Collectif, to better meet the needs of its dancers and the project.

Raíz Viva, founded in 2023, embodies the fusion and sharing of Afro-Colombian music and culture with the Québécois, Canadian, and Latin American communities of Quebec. Its mission is to create spaces that foster expression, recognition, and collective awareness of Latin American realities.
Afro-Colombian music is a blend of African drums, Indigenous Latin American wind instruments, and European influences in the Americas. This unique fusion inspired the group to form, aiming to represent these rhythms and realities through their music.
The name Raíz Viva (Living Root) reflects the group's desire to reconnect with ancestral roots and contribute to the continuous evolution of rhythms and culture.
Based in a multicultural country like Canada, Raíz Viva interacts with other musical styles and communities, which influences their creations.
The group’s first three recordings are a compilation of rhythms from Colombia’s Atlantic coast, including a reinterpretation of the traditional Brazilian samba song Magalenha, fused with a rhythm from the Atlantic coast known as Chalupa.
