Damien Robitaille

Damien Robitaille was born in 1981 in the village of Lafontaine, Ontario. He began his musical career at a very young age, learning classical piano from the age of eight, guitar at the age of thirteen, and trumpet and violin when he was in high school. Around the age of fifteen, he begins to compose his own songs, for the moment in the language of Shakespeare . At the age of eighteen, on the advice of his music teacher, Damien Robitaille decided to turn to composition in French and recorded his first album. The following year, he began studying classical music at Wilfrid Laurier University. It was at this university that he became a member of the rock band The Mezameeze , with which he could play his francophone compositions and win a university musical contest. In 2003, Robitaille left university after the launch of his eponymous album. The same year, he went to the final of the Ontario Pop contest and won a scholarship to attend the National School of Song in Granby, Quebec. In 2004, he finished his course and became a finalist at the Granby International Song Festival, winning six prizes. He then moved to Montreal, where he still resides. From 2004 to 2006, he won several distinctions such as, for example, the first prize at the Francouvertes de Montréal. It is in 2006 that Damien launches his album The man who looks like me . From the release of this album, Damien will make several trips to Europe. On September 8, 2009, his album Homme Autonome was officially launched in Montreal. He will reap eight nominations at Adisq.
