For the first time in Montreal, India's leading flutist, the grammy-nominated Pandit Ronu Majumdar will be offering a scintillating concert of Indian music at the prestigious Salle Bourgie. He will be accompanied on percussion by the brilliant young tablist Indranil Mallick. Of Ronu Majumdar the press says:

RONU MAJUMDAR

Ronu Majumdar, India's Ace Flautist, needs no introduction to music lovers all over the globe. He is a force to reckon with in the realm of Indian classical music both as a thinking musician and scintillating performer. He has held concerts at The Kremlin in Moscow, Palais de Beaux-Arts in Brussels and many other famous venues in the world. Ronu Majumdar is a major innovator with New Age Music, having introduced a completely new aesthetic in Indian Music through his epoch-making album “Song of Nature/ A Traveller's Tale”.  He is also a Grammy Nominee for his work with the Banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck in the album “Tabula Rasa”. He has performed and composed for the Hollywood movie “Primary Colours” and collaborated with top artists like George Harrison, Ry Cooder, John Hassels, Lary Coryell and Indian maestros like Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Jasraj and Kishori Amonkar. The music of India's first I- Max film (Mystic India) was also scored by Pt. Ronu Majumdar. The legendary guitarist Ry Cooder called him ‘Dr. Feelgood of Indian Flute’.

 

INDRANIL MALLICK

Indranil Mallick, a promising tabla player of rare skill, has already established himself both as a soloist and accompanist. Among his numerous awards and distinctions in tabla performance he stood first in the Yuva Utsav organized by the state Government of West Bengal. In 1997 he stood first in the prestigious Dover Lane Music Competition and earned "The Best Talent Of The Year" for 1996-97, trophy awarded by the H.M.V Music Corporation. Indranil holds a "Sangeet Visarad", Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music focused on tabla, from the University of Chandigarh, which he earned in 1999.He also earned " Sangeet Kala Ratna" in the year 2006. Indranil continues to perform with  renowned artists  in various music conferences in India and abroad. In 2002 Indranil began international touring with performances in Europe, USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Switzerland , Ukraine , Estonia, Russia, Austria and Holland. During these tours he represented India in many world renowned festivals. Some examples include the Open Baroque Festival in Estonia, The Musica Sacra International Festival in Germany, and the International Jazz and Blues festival in Austria.
