Conference presented by The North Face, in support of l’Association des Personnes Handicapées Visuelles de l’Estrie (APHVE).
Gabriel Filippi, a renowned Québécois alpine climber, author, and speaker, has climbed some of the world's highest peaks. He has reached the summit of Everest (the world's highest peak at 8 848 meters) four times and is the only Québécois to have ascended it from both the Nepalese and Tibetan sides. In an impressive feat, he climbed the Everest and Mount Lhotse (the world's fourth-highest peak at 8 416 meters) within less than 24 hours.
His book, Instinct de Survie, is a Canadian bestseller that reached the top three in national sales. In it, he recounts, among other gripping stories, how he narrowly escaped a Taliban attack that claimed the lives of 11 friends and how he survived an earthquake at Everest Base Camp that killed 20 people.
A deeply committed individual, Gabriel has supported numerous social and environmental causes. Today, he has chosen to champion the Association des Personnes Handicapées Visuelles de l’Estrie. Through his many human and athletic adventures, he embodies determination, perseverance, and compassion.
