Eeyou Istchee James Bay

4-7 June (4 days)

Departure from Rouyn-Noranda early on the 4th and return late on the 7th

Field trip leaders: Mélanie Jean and Sophie Laliberté

Number of participants: Minimum (5) & Maximum (15)

This 4-day and roughly 2000 km field trip will bring you through the boreal forest of Quebec from Rouyn-Noranda to the Cree communities of Waskaganish and Chisasibi on James Bay, as well as to the impressive hydroelectric dams of Hydro Québec on the La Grande River. Traditional activities are planned with members of both Cree communities. We will visit the Robert-Bourassa hydroelectric installations (LG-2 central, dam and spillway), the largest energy producing complex in North America that produces half of Quebec’s electricity. In addition, we will explore the Center for Northern Studies Research station in Radisson and discover some of the interesting plants and ecosystem processes associated with this area of the boreal forest. This tour is partially organized by Eeyou Istchee Baie-James Travel.

All expenses during the trip are covered (food and accommodation). Further details will be communicated with the participants once the final number of attendees is known. If you have questions regarding this trip, please contact melanie.jean@uqat.ca.

Eeyou Istchee Baie James

4-7 juin (4 jours)

Organisatrices : Mélanie Jean and Sophie Laliberté
