With the enveloping voice of a soulful crooner and the penchant for the reverie of the unattached artist, Jjanice has created a universe of his own mixing poetry, music, modern alt-soul and Afro-Caribbean grooves reminiscent of its native Haiti.
Imagine a household with Gainsbourg, Bowie, Fela, Seal and the Rita Mitsouko (and Grace Jones doing her best poses). From his talent as a lyricist put at the service other performers until practicing the profession of model for visual artists, Jjanice is not satisfied to create only, he also desires to inspire by giving himself entirely for that.
In recent years, Jjanice has been concentrating on the composition of his album but he was also able to perform at the Jazz Festival of Montreal, at the Francofolies, at the Montreal Pop Festival, M for Montreal, La Place des Arts and others.
He has last-participated in a creative residency at the Arts Center of Banff benefiting, among other things, from Saul William's coaching, a spoken word artist of international caliber.
He was also one of the Chants du Voyage residency of the Festival en Chanson de Petite-Vallée.
Jjanice has had the opportunity to perform on a regular basis with the Kalmunity Collective of which he has been a fundamental active member since 2003 (the largest collective of artists in Canada).
Jjanice very early on discovered a propensity for poetry, music and the performing arts while living in a small village in the Mauricie region of Quebec.
Being of Haitian origin and having grown up in a Quebec family, he has always enjoyed exploring the plurality of origins through his art.
Jjanice followed up with 2 EPs that were well received by both the public and the critics (Sonneur, 2010 and Pierrot Couleur, 2013) and a first concept album (La Reine Aux Ailes d’Écailles, 2019).
He is currently working on the composition of another album which will be released in 2022. Jjanice + offers us a poetic and musical journey where nothing seems off-limits.
